DIRECTIONS

You will actively participate in our class Discussion Board via Blogger. I will post a question every 1-2 weeks to stimulate our discussion. I will be reading all of the messages, and I will be participating in the discussion as a facilitator; this is a college model of online discussion.

Students are expected to (at a minimum):
A)   INITIAL RESPONSES – Post a response to the question or topic for each Discussion Board thread by the due date. These responses should be 200 words MAX.

B)   DISCUSSION RESPONSES – Participate in the course discussion by posting responses to at least two classmates in each thread. This is due three days after the initial response (weekends count as days). Responses should be 50 words MAX.

  2. I would describe the child Marji, to whom we are introduced to at the beginning of Persepolis, as a young girl that was corrupted by the Shah’s regime which led to the Islamic Revolution. Throughout the beginning of Persepolis, it show images of Marji being forced to wear a veil. Towards the end of the book, Marji is scowled at by two older ladies because of the clothes that Marji is currently wearing. Marji eventually has to decide her faith and whether or not she believes in the same god that everyone else from her culture believes in. I feel that Marji is different from the child that I was as well as the children that I grew up with. I feel this way because as a child I did not have to experience a war and live through the early years of my life following restrictions and rules the same way that Marji had to. Also, ¨All the country´s money went into ridiculous celebrations of the 2500 years of dynasty and other frivolities… All of this to impress the heads of state; the population couldn't have cared less” (Satrapi 28).
